One being the ambush of Deputy Darren Goforth in Houston who was pumping gas at the time.  “And the guy comes up behind him and just starts shooting him, even while he’s down just keeps shooting rounds at his body and there’s just no need for that you know,” said Sanchez. Detective Allen Sanchez is a long-time veteran at the Carlsbad Police Department…Detective Sanchez has been with the Carlsbad Police Department for 15 years. He was taken to Lea County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  investigators said Jimmy Shirley and his wife, Brenda, had been arguing at their son's home so Jake Shirley took his mother home. The elder Shirley followed and became angry when he was locked out. At that time there was no domestic violence shelter in the town I worked in. The best that a victim could hope for was that there was enough money in the chaplains’ fund to get one night in a cheap motel. If an officer responded to your home for a domestic violence call, he would often tell the victim to leave the house, and ask misguided questions like 'Why do you stay here anyway?  Why do you put up with it?  What did you do to make him angry?' Or make detrimental statements like, “If I have to come back here one more time tonight, someone is going to jail.”   Domestic violence was, for far too long, seen as a lesser offense, and frequently treated like a private matter. Victims were often just sent home from the hospital without intervention, children were left to suffer in silence. And as a consequence, abuse could go on for years. Captain.  Excerpt Abq Journal 08/31/2015, By Dan Schwartz / The Daily Times: FARMINGTON — A New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy official has determined that a former San Juan County Sheriff’s Office captain lied in investigations of his alleged use of department-issued ammunition in a trade for an off-road motorcycle.  The ammunition — four boxes of Black Hills .223 match grade bullets and 50 rounds of Federal 12-gauge buckshot — was valued at between $180 and $250, according to the records. The ammunition boxes were also stamped with an identification number that matched rounds kept in the Sheriff’s Office SWAT truck, according to the records.  Utley testified in the hearing that he didn’t know the ammunition belonged to the Sheriff’s Office and that Capt. Brice Current had given it to him, according to the records.  But Hearing Officer Peter Camacho stated in the records that Utley “knew or should have known” the ammunition belonged to the Sheriff’s Office. The alleged drug dealer is Maximiliano Gonzales of Pecos, whom Valencia has known on some level for years. Valencia has been on administrative leave since October. He also is accused of providing the description of an undercover officer to Gonzales and with making disparaging remarks about fellow officers to the drug suspect, according to state Department of Public Safety documents….But a lawsuit against the city of Santa Fe is in the works, according to an attorney for Valencia who claims his client was the victim of entrapment on the part of "administration higher- ups."    Albuquerque attorney Alvin Garcia told the Journal the actions taken against Valencia were a product of a "retaliation" against his client "for reporting corruption (within the department) and not participating in cover-ups."    "He was warned that things would come back to bite him," Garcia said. Domestic Violence. http://krqe.com/2014/08/15/nmsp-officer-arrested-on- domestic-charges/ Vigil, Robert Espanola, previously of Cuba.  Excerpt from Santa Fe New Mexican-2015-06/04: The family that was the subject of the raid is suing the city of Española and several police officers, claiming they lied in a 2010 affidavit to obtain a search warrant on the family’s double-wide mobile home. The affidavit, citing information from a confidential informant, said the home was being used to manufacture methamphetamine. Some 40 officers, including a New Mexico State Police SWAT team, surrounded the home in the early morning hours of May 12, 2010, and pulled the family out at gunpoint. But police found nothing illegal. The family claims Robert Vigil, the officer who obtained the search warrant, made up the informant.  Vigil had a documented history of unprofessional conduct — including complaints from the public — when he was an officer in Cuba, N.M. It is unclear if the Española Police Department did a background check on Vigil before hiring him.Former Cuba Police Chief Jason Griego said he never received any inquiries from the Española Police Department about Vigil. An Española city human resources director said in a 2013 deposition in a different case that she had no record of Vigil undergoing a psychological evaluation when he was hired.Griego said he’s barred from commenting on Vigil’s past performance beyond stating whether or not he would rehire Vigil as an officer. The answer to that question, Griego said, is a resounding “no, definitely not.”According to records obtained by The New Mexican, Griego disciplined Vigil numerous times during the nearly two years that Vigil worked in Cuba between 2007 and 2008. Griego also demoted Vigil from the position of captain.“I have received numerous complaints in reference to your interpersonal skills,” Griego wrote in a Feb. 22, 2008, letter in which he informed Vigil he was being stripped of his rank. “It is my hope that you see this as an opportunity to self reflect and come to terms that not everyone who has come to me with the same complaints, as to the way you treat them and talk to them, are wrong.” According to Cuba Police Department records, Vigil was docked eight hours of compensatory time for unprofessional conduct, stripped of his privilege to take his patrol car home for failing to maintain the vehicle, reprimanded for failing to complete assigned tasks and forced to apologize to a citizen who reported Vigil had threatened to beat him up...Police officials said at the time that Rapatz must have been tipped off, but Rapatz’s lawyer claims in court documents that operation “Sweet Revenge” was cooked up by Vigil and Officer Danny Pacheco, whose mother and father were Rapatz’s neighbor and had been feuding with him, according to the lawsuit. Robert Cole, the attorney representing the city in the lawsuit, told the judge in an April 23 email that Vigil claimed the confidential informant’s file was destroyed in 2013 by Lt.
